Social Media
One of my learning goals for the second half of my internship was to get more experience in marketing communication and extend what I have already learned in the first half, especially through exposure in digital marketing.
I was able to work on a project which involved setting up new social media sites for our department. This project included setting up a social media strategy and meeting company regulations for the setup.
From personal experience I already had knowledge about the proposed social media sites. I have also already worked on a facebook post in the first half of my internship. In addition to this I have had a few meetings with our Digital Communications Specialists to learn about social media and get the knowledge to optimise future posts.
This previous knowledge has helped me to contribute in this project. I was able to give valuable and constructive feedback to team members based on the information I had previously acquired. I have learned from the facebook post I have done and proposed to focus on more creative and engaging content, as this is something that has not been done with the facebook post.
During this project I learned how organisations can utilise social media as part of their communication strategy. I also got insight into the structure of a large organisation and was able to understand what processes are involved when setting up a social media site.
This project showed my ability to apply personal experience to a work place task. I was able to draw on what I had previously learned to make this project more successful. I also demonstrated a proactive approach to information search prior to meetings in order to be prepared and keep learning. A weakness this project has identified is my ability to deal with the structures of a large organisation. I was often frustrated with how complicated the process was, when the actual setup is not complicated at all. Upon further reflection however, I believe that these structures helped me to identify how much planning should be involved and also underline that a business should not create a social media site without a proper strategy and planning.
Whilst I was able to get experience in social media, I believe that there is more for me to learn in order to achieve my goal. It was great to see the strategy behind digital marketing but ultimately I really want to get exposure to running a social media site. This is something I want to achieve before completing my internship.
In the future I will push myself to keep learning about social media and I will try to stay involved in the project. I would like to be a part of the social media project when the site is running. I will continue to learn about social media and seek further assistance from digital marketing experts within Bosch.
