Channel Marketing
Another goal was to get more experience in different marketing and business fields. I was already able to demonstrate some of this in the first half of my placement. In the second half I was able to work on a project with the channel marketer. It involved working with a client on a new way to bring wipers to the market and understand what Bosch can improve customer satisfaction. As part of this project we had to create a strategic brief.
I only knew a little about channel marketing through university before I started on this project. Furthermore I had written briefs at university but I have not been involved in a strategic brief in the professional environment before.
I was able to help with the strategic brief. I contributed some creative ideas on how we can improve our strategy. Additionally I assisted in analysing the findings of the store visits and set the base for our strategy.
During this project I got first-hand insight into what a channel marketer does. This was very helpful in order to understand the connection between what I am doing and other parts of marketing. I also got my first experience at how we interact with our customers on personal visits. I have not been on customer store visits before and it was good to understand how we approach them. This also gave me more insight into how the customers work and how Bosch is presented in store. Furthermore I was involved in a strategic brief and I was able to build on what I had learned at university. I learned how we can utilise our strengths and weaknesses to set up a strategy.
This project highlighted my ability to analyse and generate creative ideas. I was able to demonstrate creative thinking and I was able to identify this as one of my strengths. I did find it challenging to interact with the clients and a weakness is that I am not confident enough when I am outside my comfort zone. I need to learn to be more proactive when I am uncomfortable and accept the challenge to push myself outside my comfort zone.
I was able to achieve my goal of gaining experience in a different marketing field. I would however, like to get more experience for other marketing fields as well. I think this enriches my student position and I can benefit from a diverse experience.
In future I want to show more initiative when meeting customers and try and push myself to maybe even conduct an interview myself if the possibility arises. I will also try to be more confident when meeting clients and step outside my comfort zone. I think I will be able to show more initiative when creating a strategy based brief and draw on what I have learned in this project. For the remainder of my student internship I want to take advantage of the diversity Bosch has to offer and gain more experience in various fields.
