What is it?
During my internship so far I was heavily involved in the build-up of the product launch and I assisted the product specialists with all marketing communication. I was able to assist the creation of a POS brochure and organise other promotional material. All materials had to be developed in accordance with the brake pad launch.
What have I done?
The product marketing student and I were working on this project closely together. We have developed the time plan for the marketing communications material and also proposed the mediums that should be used. As part of this project we designed three POS brochures and flyers. This involved collaboration with the product specialists in order to create content that is relevant and shows the right amount of technical knowledge to our B2B consumers. In order to create the brochures and promotional materials I also had to work with our design and printing agencies. This involved a lot of communication in order to get the desired products in time for the launch.
What did I learn?
This project has helped me learn about a marketing launch from start to finish. I was able to apply some course theory from Global Marketing, where we also had to design a launch strategy. Additionally I learned how to organise a launch and plan it correctly so that everything is done on time. Furthermore I got experience in creating POS materials and promotional items. This project imposed a challenge and it was great to be involved in such a big project from start to finish. It was great to get exposure to all the steps involved and to be able to see the processes and stages behind a product launch. I was able to use course theory from B2B marketing and marketing communication to create the brochure. I was able to identify how what I have learned at uni will assist me with real life marketing work.
It was great to be trusted for such a big project and to have the opportunity to organise so many different aspects of the launch. It really showed how much organisation is required for a big project like this.
How did it help me achieve my goal?
This helped me achieve my goal of gaining marketing communication experience though being involved in a project from start to finish. Through the entire process I was able to see how marketing communications can be used to support a product launch and how it is a valuable asset. Rather than just talking about all the processes in theory I was able to apply them. Especially the brochure design and creation, which gave me good insight into how a brochure needs to be set up, what messages should be brought across and how to make it visually attractive. The experience gained from this project will help me in my future career. I will be able to draw on the experience of being involved in a launch and having to create supporting materials. It is very likely that I will come across a similar task in my future career. I will also be able to use the time management and organisational skills I have learned for my final semester at university as well as in my future career, as I will always be working on a tight time schedule.
